Uber launches innovative initiative to connect women riders with vetted drivers

· 5 min read

Uber has broadened its initiative designed to connect female passengers with female drivers. The Women Preferences feature has now been rolled out across the United States, following a pilot phase in several urban areas. This functionality was previously accessible in numerous international markets and was initially introduced in Saudi Arabia back in 2019.

The implementation of this feature is straightforward. Female users will encounter an option labeled "Women Drivers" when booking a ride, and this option is also available for scheduled trips. Additionally, riders can set a preference for female drivers within the app’s settings, although this does not ensure a match due to variations in driver availability.

This functionality is similarly accessible for female drivers, who can specify a preference for rides with female passengers through the application's settings.

Uber is not alone in addressing safety concerns for women during rides. Lyft has also been enhancing its own version of this feature, which it also recently expanded nationwide
