Shark's ChillPill Combines Mist, Fan, and Cooling Plate in a Single Innovative Portable Device

· 5 min read

Shark has been unveiling a series of compelling products recently, and its latest creation is one that has captured my attention. The company has launched the ChillPill — a device it refers to as a “3-in-1 personal cooling system.” This modular unit combines a fan, mister, and cold plate into a single, portable unit, available today (March 10) at a price of $150. It’s a timely release for the summer season, to be sure. I've had the opportunity to test the ChillPill over several days, and while I find it somewhat expensive, I'm impressed by the advanced engineering and adaptability it offers for the cost.

The ChillPill resembles an unusual, contemporary version of binoculars. It consists of two cylindrical components connected by a one-inch silver hinge that allows rotation. Unlike traditional binoculars, one side of the ChillPill can pivot up to 100 degrees in either direction, offering flexibility in positioning. The hinge is designed with a firm click mechanism, ensuring stability once set in place.

The smaller cylinder houses the control panel and USB-C charging port. A locking switch near the base prevents accidental activation when the device is stored in a purse or bag. Adjusting settings involves pressing the opposite end of this tube and rotating a dial. A display on the top surface shows battery life and the selected mode or speed.

The larger, matte-finish cylinder serves as the attachment point, featuring an air inlet at one end. Shark refers to these attachments as “caps,” which include a High-Speed Fan, Dry Touch Mist, and InstaChill Cooling Plate. The fan is a thick disc, while the mist and cooling plate are slightly taller. The misting cap contains a reservoir with a wick, requiring potable water before use. The user manual emphasizes avoiding oils, fragrances, or other additives.

Replacing the caps is straightforward, thanks to intuitive symbols on the edge. Simply twist until the lock icon aligns with the white dot, and the attachment is secure.

Among the three attachments, I was most eager to try the cooling plate, but I found the misting function to be unexpectedly effective. Initially skeptical about the “dry mist” description, I filled the tank with cold tap water and discovered the resulting cool air and vapor to be very refreshing. While my chin did get slightly damp, the moisture evaporated quickly. If needed, I could adjust the distance to avoid direct exposure to the face. The misting feature also proved useful when directed at other areas like the neck or back for quick cooling.

The cooling plate utilizes similar technology to the under-eye plates found in the Shark CryoGlow LED face mask and the Shark DePuffi device. The InstaChill system provides a super-cool surface that can be applied directly to the skin or any object needing rapid cooling. This is particularly beneficial after a hot yoga session or during a sweltering commute. I used the lower chill setting to apply to my face before an important call, and while I wasn’t completely relaxed, the device certainly helped reduce my stress levels.

Although the fan may not be the most exciting feature, it performs effectively. At its highest setting of 10, the airflow is powerful enough to create a mini cyclone effect. For those who simply need moving air without cooling, the ChillPill delivers ample power and a wide range of intensity options.

Considering the price, I would have liked Shark to include additional accessories such as a wrist strap, clamp, belt clip, crossbody strap, or travel case. I also wish the company could integrate a way to keep all the attachments secured on the device, eliminating the need for a separate carrying case. Additionally, the portion of the device with the power button tends to become slick or greasy, making it occasionally difficult to grip.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed using the ChillPill to stay cool. It has potential as a popular product in regions with high temperatures and humidity, such as Singapore, where I reside. I plan to purchase a few as gifts for my family members, though I’ll probably limit myself to one or two due to the price point.

Update, March 10 2026, 3:42 PM ET: This story has been updated to correct the degree of rotation allowed by the hinge on the two tubes.
