AOC Says Trump Is 'Unfit' To Serve For Hosting Documentary Screening After Killing In Minneapolis

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed President Donald Trump for hosting a movie screening on the same day a federal immigration officer shot and killed a man in Minneapolis.

"Today DHS assassinated a VA nurse in the street, Bondi is attempting to extort voter files, and half the country is bracing on the eve of a potentially crippling ice storm with FEMA gutted. So what is the President up to? Having a movie night at the White House. He's unfit," she said in a social media publication.

She was reacting to another post noting that Trump and guests would be attending a screening of "Melania," a documentary about the First Lady. The event was also set to host the CEOs of several companies, including Apple and Amazon.

Trump reacted to the killing by blaming Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. He shared images of the gun that immigration officials said belonged to Pretti and said: "What is that all about? Where are the local Police? Why weren't they allowed to protect ICE Officers?" He went on to accuse Walz and Frey of "inciting Insurrection, with their pompous, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric."

Pretti's family released a statement on Saturday, saying he was a kindhearted soul who wanted to make a difference in the world.

"The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump's murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed," reads a passage of the statement.

Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that agents fired "defensive shots" after a man with a gun approached them and "violently resisted" their attempts to disarm him.
